presuppositions make an ignorant public
the mutual prejudice makes me want to scream
the political moves that are rash and so quick,
and we'd like to pretend that it's just a bad dream
while a battle ensues, and the soldiers die trying
our flags are raised high and the proud anthem plays
yet in that foreign land, there are people there crying
waiting for a time when they'll have peaceful days
the sons and the fathers of families like ours
brothers, and cousins and uncles there too
all forced into conflict by government powers
these men have to fight us, the red, white and blue
and when I hear our fighters have killed people aplenty
not only the armed men who can surely fight back
but the women and children from that distant country
that were driving a van, not planning an attack
I wonder if we are the righteous defender
sworn to take down the dictator so vile
for we destroy all the land, and we choose to render
all that we love, to make fighting worthwhile
